Difference Between Solid, Liquid And Gas

Difference Between Solid, Liquid And Gas
The major dissimilarities or difference between solid, liquid and gas can be highlighted as follows:
1. Introduction
Solid: Form of matter with fixed shape and density is known as solid.
Liquid: Form of matter with fixed volume but no definite shape is known as liquid
Gas: Form of matter with no fixed shape and volume is known as gas.

2. Shape

Solid: It retains definite shape
Liquid: It lacks definite shape
Gas: It lacks definite shape

3. Volume

Solid: It retains definite volume
Liquid: It also has fixed volume
Gas: It lacks definite volume

4. Level Of Energy

Solid: It has the lowest level of energy as compared to liquid and gas
Liquid: It has medium level of energy (more than solid and less than gas)
Gas: It has highest level of energy than solid and liquid

5. Fluidity

Solid: It lacks fluidity and cannot flow from one direction to another
Liquid: It can flow or move from higher level to lower level.
Gas: It can move or flow easily from one direction to another

6. Interparticle Space

Solid: Less than liquid and gas
Liquid: More than solid but less than gas
Gas: More than solid and liquid

7. Motion Of Molecules

Solid: Negligible because of less intermolecular attraction
Liquid: Higher than solid and lesser than gas
Gas: Very high because of minimum intermolecular attraction.

8. Examples

Solid: Rock, computer, book etc. are some examples of solid
Liquid: Milk, water, nitric acid etc, are some examples of liquid
Gas: Oxygen, nitrogen, chlorine etc. are some examples of gas.
